Introduces the fundamentals of American Sign Language (ASL) used by the Deaf Community, including basic vocabulary, syntax, fingerspelling, and grammatical non-manual signals. Prerequisites: Competency in MTE 6 or higher as demonstrated through the placement and diagnostic tests or by completing MTE 6 competencies in reading and writing as demonstrated by placement in ENG 666 or placement in Co-requisites ENG 666 and ENF 8 or completion of ENF 7 ability to meet physical expectations of patient care mandatory criminal background check and drug test current (through the end of class) proof of negative TB physical ability to lift and move clients, hear audible alarms and sounds, auscultate certain physical parameters, such as blood pressure and heart and lung sounds and ability to interact effectively with clients/families and health care team members.
Helps students improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary development. Improves students' reading proficiency to a level which would allow the students to function adequately in ESL 97. Credits are not applicable toward graduation.
Provides the student with essential skills and techniques necessary to obtain quality information from victims, witnesses, and suspects regarding criminal activity. Emphasizes locations and settings for interviews, kinesics, proxemics, and paralinguistics of both the interviewer and interviewee.
